The Chicago Cubs finally did it. After 108 years, the curse is over, and the Cubs, odd as it is to say, are World Series champions

For all Cubs fans, Wednesday night is one they will never forget . But for fans of a certain age, it is also something they have been waiting for for a very long time , a truth that was not lost on their children and grandchildren.

After the Cubs’ victory in Game 7 against the Cleveland Indians in extra innings, videos, photos and text message conversations started to pop up on social media that showed grandmas and grandpas celebrating the victory they had quite literally been waiting for their entire lives.

Some opened beers they’ve been saving for decades. Others wished their partner could have been there to celebrate the moment for them. Sports matter simply because sports matter. If there was any any doubt of that before Wednesday night, it should be erased this Thursday morning.

Congrats, Cubs fans. Especially all you grandmas and grandpas out there.

A friendly tip: Watch the below videos with audio. It’s worth it.

Sadly, not all Cubs fans were able to see their Cubbies finally win. But they were remembered by their families, who knew how badly they would have wanted to cherish this moment.
