You Can Now Sing 'Happy Birthday' On TV, So HuffPost Live Did

And wesee you in court!

If you're already having a great day, here's some icing on the cake: singing "Happy Birthday" will no longer cost you a cent. After years of film and TV productions avoiding use of the iconic song for fear of copyright claims, a U.S. district judge ruled  Tuesday that Warner/Chappell Music does not, in fact, own the rights. And now that the tune is in the public domain, HuffPost Live decided to celebrate.

In the video above, watch host Josh Zepps talk with filmmaker Jennifer Nelson, a plaintiff in the suit that freed the song, and then enjoy a "Happy Birthday" serenade for a HuffPost employee who can, for the first time, celebrate her birthday in a public media forum without bracing for a lawsuit.
