Every road tripper, moviegoer and lazy couch-sitter has pondered this question since the beginning of time (or at least since those activities were invented). And now, pelvic physiotherapist Heba Shaheed  explains the expert take with a biological lesson in the video above.

Yes, it’s generally safe to hold in your pee, as long as you don’t do it often or for an extended period of time. Our bodies can voluntarily prevent urine from exiting the bladder, but letting it stay there too long and doing this too often can lead to long-term issues like an increased risk of infection  and, in rare cases, can cause the bladder to burst .
