Most of us learned in grade school that parents' DNA is passed on to their children, and that DNA is the only thing that gets passed on because memories and skills can't be inherited, right? 

Wrong.

A new video (above) from the YouTube channel MinuteEarth  explains not only why inheritance is far more complicated than you probably thought, but also why scientists are closely studying the field of epigenetics -- chemical modifications on your DNA  that can pass to your children -- to better understand the weird nuances of inheritance.
