Former New York Times and Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Jeff Zeleny joined ABC News. The network made the announcement on Monday.

Zeleny, who previously covered politics for the Times , will join the network as senior Washington correspondent. Zeleny will also appear regularly on ABC's Sunday public affairs program "This Week."

Zeleny made headlines last year after Rick Santorum exploded at him during the Republican primary in March 2012. Zeleny asked Santorum about a statement he made calling Mitt Romney "the worst Republican in the country to put up against Barack Obama ." Santorum yelled at Zeleny to "stop lying," "distorting his words" and called his question "bullsh---."

ABC News president Ben Sherwood wrote of Zeleny, "Over the past 12 years Jeff has traveled to all 50 states and reported from more than two-dozen countries while covering four Presidential campaigns including Barack Obamas road to the White House, the Tea Party movement, Capitol Hill and the inside game of politics ... Jeff will bring his many talents to all our broadcasts and platforms."

ABC News' White House correspondent Jake Tapper announced that he was leaving the broadcast network to join CNN in December 2012. Though Zeleny is not replacing Tapper as ABC News' White House correspondent, he does now carry the same title as Tapper at CNN.
