Dr. Jill Biden joined Instagram Thursday, sharing photos under the handle @DrBiden .

Biden joined the social network ahead of a week-long visit to the Republic of Korea, Vietnam, Laos and Japan, where she'll meet with students, women entrepreneurs and military families. She'll also be taking part in an event in Japan that's part of her Joining Forces initiative, which helps service members, veterans and their families.

Biden's Instagram bio describes her as a "Lifelong educator. Military mom and grandmother. Wife of @VP Biden." It also notes all photos posted by Biden will be labeled "--Jill."

Biden's husband, Vice President Joe Biden , joined Instagram in April 2014, using the handle @vp .
