Joe Biden Tangles With Iraq War Protester

The vice president reminded the heckler of his late son Beau, an Iraq war veteran.

Vice President Joe Biden  shut down an Iraq war protester on Thursday by invoking the memory of his late son, an Iraq war veteran, and inviting the man to talk with him privately.

Biden was interrupted by the man as he campaigned for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton  at a rally in Cleveland.

The crowd attempted to drown out the man with chants of “Hillary!” But Biden engaged with him.

“Will you listen? So did my son, OK?” Biden responded.

Watch the video above.

Biden’s son, Beau, died of terminal brain cancer last year. He served in Iraq from 2008 to 2009 as a member of the Delaware Army National Guard and received a Bronze Star.

“Come back here after to talk to me about this,” Biden told the protester. “You have my permission.”

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story misstated that the protester was protesting Clinton’s Iraq war vote. He was referring to U.S. foreign policy in Syria.
