Joel Klein Out, Cathie Black In: HuffPost Bloggers React to NYC Schools Chancellor Change

With the resignation of NYC schools Chancellor Joel Klein, Cathie Black will in all likelihood be the first woman to run the massive and much-watched school system.

New York City's long-tenured, oft-controversial Department of Education Chancellor Joel Klein resigned on Tuesday. Almost immediately, the Bloomberg administration announced it was replacing him with another figure who has had plenty of experience in business. Hearst Magazines Chair Cathie Black will in all likelihood be the first woman to run the massive and much-watched school system. Her near total lack of education experience (and the fact that she sent her own children to private schools) is raising hackles among some critics.
