Joy Behar's Last Day On 'The View' Brings Surprises, Laughs And Kisses

END OF AN ERA
|

After nearly 17 years, "The View" bid farewell to longtime host Joy Behar on Friday with surprises, laughs and a whole lot of girl-on-girl kissing.

Behar is moving to pastures unknown , leaving the show with just one original co-host, Barbara Walters. Friday's show was a pre-taped, hour-long tribute to her tenure.

"I have to say I'm a little uncomfortable with that," she said of the format planned for her last day.

Guests including Joan Rivers, Regis Philbin, Meredith Vieira, Susie Essman and more surprised Behar, who sat front and center on stage. Co-hosts Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shepherd sat in the front row of the audience. Notably absent was Elisabeth Hasselbeck, who exited "The View" last month after co-hosting for a decade .

The show pay tribute to Behar's classic moments, which included a thorough montage of all the women the comedienne has kissed over the years. Vieira, who co-hosted with Behar for 9 years before leaving for the "Today" show, wished Behar the very best and sent her off with mini make out session. The on-air screen kiss prompted so much applause that Behar leapt from her chair to kiss Walters on the lips.

"Backstage is where we make out," Walters later quipped.

The hosts ended the show chatting around the table that Behar has sat behind for nearly twenty years. "I hate mushy," Behar said.

"I'm going to have my sentimental moment whether you like it or not," Walters said. "I love you, Joy. Thank you and thank you and thank you. We are really going to miss you."

Behar had the last word and said she wanted to thank so many people. First and foremost, Behar said, she wanted to thank her hair and makeup people. "You saw how I started off, it wasn't pretty," she said.

"I'll be sexting every one of you in the fall," she later added. And on a final note, Behar said she had been wanting to say something on behalf of Walters for 16 years: "F--k Harry Reasoner!" The line was a reference to one of Walters' most notorious co-hosts .

And with that, the show ended.
