Khizr Khan: The Only Thing Trump Sacrifices Is The Truth

Our son served this country with honor and distinction, and gave the ultimate sacrifice," the Gold Star father said.

The family of Capt. Humayun S.M. Khan, who was killed in Iraq in 2004, criticized Donald Trump  Sunday after the Republican presidential nominee claimed during the second presidential debate that Khan would still be alive today if Trump were president.

Khizr Khan, Capt. Khan’s father and one of the most powerful speakers  from this year’s Democratic National Convention , said the only thing the nominee sacrifices “is the truth.”

“We know that our son, Captain Humayan Khan, is an American hero. We also know that Donald Trump is not telling the truth when he says he was against the Iraq war,” Khan said in a statement. “Our son served this country with honor and distinction, and gave the ultimate sacrifice. The only thing that Donald Trump sacrifices is the truth.”

Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s foreign policy spokesman, Jesse Lehrich, had a more blunt response to Trump’s Sunday remarks, tweeting to Trump, “go fuck yourself .” He later apologized for the “clearly inappropriate nature and language” of the tweet.

Editor’s note: Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar , rampant xenophobe , racist , misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims — 1.6 billion members of an entire religion — from entering the U.S.
