Kurt Cobain Death Anniversary: Legendary Musician Died 19 Years Ago Today

Remembering Kurt Cobain
|

Nineteen years ago today (April 5), Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain took his own life at his Seattle, Washington, home. He was 27 years old.

The troubled grunge rocker, who shot to fame after his band's seminal album "Nevermind" sold 10 million copies, struggled with depression and substance abuse for a long time. Some of his many fans, however, still hold on to theories that Cobain did not end his own life. His name, his tragic tale, his iconic music and his legacy stretch far beyond his years.

In the suicide note Cobain left behind, he reportedly ended with a Neil Young quote. "It's better to burn out than to fade away," he wrote, before signing off with "Peace, love, empathy."
