Land Of The Lawless

Most Americans have always taken for granted that our laws and Constitution would be upheld by all branches of our Government. We are witnessing a moment in our history where this is not the case. A blatant affront to principles our nation was founded on.

This is not about republicans or democrats. This is about the people we have entrusted to uphold our laws and Constitution not doing so, while not having any repercussions or accountability for their blatant abdication of duty.

It was somewhat alarming when Merrick Garland wasnt afforded the rights he should have had as a SCOTUS nominee---a hearing to assess his qualifications. He never got it, and Congress never apologized for outwardly breaking Congressional rules.

When Trump was elected these issues became more serious to the stability of our nation as we know it. One of the first actions out of the Trump Administration was the Travel Ban which I wrote about here . It has been struck down multiple times as Unconstitutional and now heads to SCOTUS for the final judgment. Right out of the gate, the Constitution was challenged, its authority undermined by the Trump Administration policies.

The Emoluments

One of the biggest examples of more Constitutional destruction is the Emoluments Clause being violated multiple times by our President. This is an impeachable offense . Something the Founding Fathers warned about as serious corruptive force --repeatedly.

Article I, Section 9, Clause 8 of the Constitution says: No Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.

The Founding Fathers were obsessed with preventing this type of corruption.

In Federalist 22, Alexander Hamilton speaks to why emoluments can destroy our republic: "One of the weak sides of republics, among their numerous advantages, is that they afford too easy an inlet to foreign corruption.

We as Americans in 2017 are living this corruption, our Congress, all of whom took an oath to uphold this emoluments clause and Constitution, have not acted, nor have they shown any intention to act to stop this violation that directly threatens our Republic.

Obstruction of Justice

Our nation is still reeling from the bombshell testimony from Comey, that led many legal experts to believe that the President could be charged with Obstruction of Justice for asking Comey to go easy on his investigations into the Trump Administration and then consequently firing him. Mueller will decide if this was obstruction of justice. So we wait. Still so much is unknown, pending the independent Mueller investigation into all of these issues, including Russia. Ironically the role of Mueller himself is up in the air with his integrity and very job being attacked. Roll this all up, and left unchecked, it is a direct dissolution of our democracy. And theres no end in sight.

Update: Per the Washington Post Trump is in fact officially being investigated for Obstruction of Justice.

Healthcare

The lawlessness has reached basic policy. Congress now openly destroying Obamacare through sabotage under the radar. Being sold as Obamacare is in a death spiral , while the secrecy enshrouds actions to destroy it. The lives of 51 million depend on Obamacare and Congress instead of improving the law, are killing it in ways that are unscrupulous and these actions will in turn kill many Americans. One of the saddest, and most cruel things to come out of an American Congress in decades.

Free Press

New Trump Administration rules are limiting the rights of the Free Press which are guaranteed in the Constitution and are mentioned explicitly. It is Unconstitutional to suppress or destroy their rights. Free Press keeps us free, and that is in peril. Once again, absolutely no accountability for these actions.

Lawless Chaos

I can go on, but these examples hit the point home that the Constitution, our laws and their integrity are being outwardly destroyed without any accountability from the majority in Congress. Only the majority can act, can stop the destruction of our Republic. They have chosen not to. Many of them having their spouses accept jobs in the Trump Administration which gives the impression of a payoff.

The corruption is eating this nation like a cancer. A cancer that will soon be incurable. Without correction, accountability and a return to honor and integrity in all of our Branches of Government, our republic will fall. The new standard will be foreign bribes for US policy, obstruction of justice, killing off Americans by outwardly sabotaging their healthcare instead of fixing their healthcare and overall a complete disregard for our laws and Constitution. Not to mention an inability to act to protect the national security of Americans, because chaos makes us weaker.

If our laws and Constitution are not upheld, they are meaningless and we will no longer have a democracy as we know it.

Is this our new reality?

Yes.

Until We The People decide we need to vote in those who respect the laws and Constitution.
