Lava Meets Water In Extreme Pictures From Hawaii (PHOTOS)

LOOK: Awesome Hawaiian Lava

Lava and water: When the two meet, they make for some beautiful pictures that undoubtedly call to mind the amazing power of nature and the majestic beauty of Hawaii.

But for two daredevil photographers, Nick Selway and C. J. Kale , taking these awesome photos is anything but a day at the beach.

Braving treacherous tides and molten lava flows with temperatures that can measure thousands of degrees Fahrenheit, the pair camp on active volcanoes, chase lava flows to the coast and swim up as close as they can get in order to capture these dramatic shots .

The water temperature even at these distances is about 110 degrees Fahrenheit, but as Kale told the Daily Mail, the water is boiling only 20 feet away. Get hit by one rogue wave, and you're dead .

"We have a lot of fun, but it's extremely dangerous and I wouldn't recommend anyone trying it for themselves," he said.

Kilauea, the source for the photos, is one of the most active volcanoes in the world. It's located on Big Island within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park , a 320,000-acre preserve that is home to endangered, native Hawaiian birds.
