Lena Dunham Tries To Parody Celeb Endorsements With Pro-Hillary Rap, Is Just Awkward

Points for trying?

Lena Dunham is putting on her “sensual pantsuit” and campaigning hard for Hillary Clinton

To show even more support  for the Democratic presidential candidate, the “Girls” creator released a rap video through Funny or Die on Thursday, and we don’t know how to feel about it. Let’s just say that she shouldn’t quit her day job to become a rapper anytime soon.

In the clip, Dunham raps about the inequality and sexism Clinton faces on a regular basis while prancing around in a red pantsuit. Things escalate quickly, though, and, before we know it, the Dunham has stripped down to a bikini-pantsuit hybrid to make the song all about herself.

Dunham explained her ideas behind the video   which also stars Cynthia Erivo and Charlamagne tha God in an interview with Vulture, saying, “I liked the idea of a well-meaning, ridiculous white girl who thinks she’s helping the election by exposing her body and writing thoughtless rap music.”

“There are so many PSAs at this point, so it’s fun to take a step back and go, ‘How many of these are working?’” she added. “We should all be doing our part, but are they necessarily the smartest way that we can be going about it?”

We’ll let you be the judge of whether or not Dunham’s video was a smart way to get people to the voting booths. Check out the whole thing above.
