Charlie Sheen  announced he is HIV-positive  on the "Today" show  Tuesday.

Later that afternoon, Magic Johnson tweeted his support and encouragement for Sheen . “I wish @CharlieSheen and his family the best,” Johnson wrote. “With the advancement in treatments and medicine he can fight this disease and live a long life.”

For Johnson, his personal bout with the disease began in 1991, when he revealed during a news conference that he was HIV-positive,  prompting his retirement from the Los Angeles Lakers. Since then, Johnson has raised awareness for the disease and has reportedly raised over $20 million for HIV/AIDS funding through his Magic Johnson Foundation. Johnson tweeted that he hopes Sheen will join him in raising awareness.
