President Barack Obama's recent proposal to raise the federal minimum wage has been met with opposition from top Republican lawmakers and business leaders .

One common claim is that raising the minimum wage would throw people out of work. But numerous studies have found that raising the minimum wage does not reduce employment . In fact, there are a number of positive things that can be said about raising the minimum wage.
