Natalie Dormer Hints At Margaery's Plans For Escape In Season 6

The Queen has been imprisoned too long already.

Natalie Dormer hit the the December 2015 cover of Women's Health magazine  to promote her role as propaganda director Cressida in "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2." To "Game of Thrones " fans, though, Dormer will always be Margaery Tyrell first and foremost. And, lucky for us, the actress spilled the beans on what Margaery will be up to in season 6 of the show. Spoilers ahead.

We haven't seen Queen Margaery since Episode 7 of last season, when Cersei visited her in the dank cell where the High Septon was holding her prisoner for perjury. (As you may remember, she claimed to have no knowledge of her brother's sexual proclivities, but was shown to be lying when Loras' squeeze Olyvar testified that she had seen them in bed together.) At that point, she looked filthy, furious and miserable. Cersei could barely contain her joy at her rival's plight.

Cersei's happiness, of course, didn't last long. The High Septon imprisoned her moments after she saw Margaery. And he didn't set her free until the season finale, when he forced her to walk naked from the Sept of Baelor to the Red Keep, pursued by the now iconic Shame Nun

Margaery was still in the Faith's custody at the end of the season. But in the Women's Health article, Dormer said that Margaery has a plan for escape

"Margaery is a savvy chick and she’s trying to find an angle -- she’s trying to find a way to get out of that cell, so it’s pretty amusing and ingenious, the route she decides to take," Dormer explained.

That makes sense: Margaery and her grandmother Olenna have demonstrated their craftiness many times already. They're far more clever than Cersei, for example. But it doesn't give us a ton to go on.

So, to get a better sense of what might happen to Margaery in Season 6, we'll have to combine this new statement with some set leaks that surfaced in September . Spanish "Game of Thrones" fan site Los Siete Reinos wrote that Nikolaj Coster-Waldau -- aka Jaime Lannister -- was spotted leading a squadron of mounted Tyrell warriors to the steps of the Sept of Baelor to demand Margaery's release. But the High Septon apparently let Margaery go without a fight. Why? Because she had become a devout follower of the Faith while in prison.

If that report was accurate -- and look, who knows? -- then Margaery's "angle" must be her declaration of faith . But that would only be "amusing and ingenious" if it were a false declaration. In other words, Margaery is going to avoid being punished for lying ... by lying about something even more important to the Faith. Yep. Sounds about right. Like grandmother, like granddaughter.

CORRECTION: This article previously misidentified Olenna as Margaery's aunt. She is her grandmother.
