Nick Cannon Says The Oscars Debate Is A Distraction From Other Important Issues

Cannon also supports Chris Rock's decision to remain the host of the annual ceremony.

Nick Cannon has found a unique way to add his views on the conversations currently happening around the lack of diversity in Hollywood and the inclusion of people of color at award shows like the Oscars.

Cannon suggested on Sunday in a spoken word clip posted on his Facebook page  that these media topics were just mere tactics to distract America from much more pressing social justice issues.

“Look what they did to Oscar,” he said in the video. “Nah, not another trophy rant. I'm talking Oscar Grant, Sandra Bland, Mike Brown, Tamir Rice, Eric Garner, Freddie Gray. Why we trust what the news say anyway? It's blasphemous, don't get distracted by these lottery tickets and statues. It's just fake gold and plastic.”

While some critics have urged Chris Rock to step down from his second stint as the award ceremony's host, Cannon went on to add his support for the comedian and also hinted that he would probably tune in to watch the show.

"I told Chris, 'man go 'head and rock that sh*t,'" he said. "Hell yeah, I'm gonna watch that ceremony where they gonna let a black man be the Master for at least two hours."
