Nike Features First Trans Man To Compete On U.S. Men's National Team

|

Nike aired a new commercial last night during the Rio Olympics broadcast featuring superstar transgender athlete Chris Mosier, the first openly trans athlete to earn a spot on a U.S. National Team.

Nike’s “Unlimited Courage” campaign draws attention not only to Mosier’s skills as an athlete, but also to the lack of openly transgender competitors at the Olympics . This short film is the first of three from Nike that will recognize and celebrate everyday athletes on a global scale.

“Being the first trans man on a U.S. men’s national team was a dream come true for me,” Mosier said in an interview published on Nike News . “I always wanted my name on a jersey. To represent our country at the highest level, in my sport, is just outstanding. It’s just such an amazing opportunity — and an amazing opportunity for other people to see themselves reflected in someone succeeding in sports as a trans man.”

Previously, Mosier, who competes in the duathlon and the triathlon, was the first trans athlete to be featured in ESPN’s Body Issue .

“I love my body. It took a long time for me to get to a point where I could say that, so I’m happy to be in a place where I can share that with the world,” Mosier said at that time.

Check out the short film “Unlimited Courage” and stay tuned for more from Nike.
