About That Time The Olsen Twins Were Almost Fired From 'Full House'

John Stamos wanted more experienced toddler actors, apparently.

At a Television Critics Association event in Beverley Hills this week, John Stamos admitted that "Full House" was nearly changed in one very essential way -- and it was all his fault.

See, little Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen joined the cast when they were younger than 1 year old. And that had Stamos like, "Why are these small people crying so much? Why do they smell bad sometimes?" It was bad enough that he tried to replace them with another, less babyish set of babies.

A recently released clip  of "The Unauthorized 'Full House' Story," set to debut on Lifetime on Aug. 22, shows a re-enactment of Stamos asking a producer to replace the twins. But now Stamos has confirmed it.

"It was very difficult to get the shot," Stamos said, explaining his actions to Entertainment Weekly . "So I [gesturing], 'Get them out…!' That is actually 100 percent accurate."

And, for a little while, they were off the set. Producers replaced them with a pair of "unattractive redheaded kids" -- in Stamos' words -- who didn't work out.

"[Producers] were like, all right, get the Olsen twins back. And that’s the story," he said.

They've since made up. Fast forward a couple of decades, and Stamos is tweeting that he's #heartbroken  the Olsens, now 29, won't be appearing in Netflix 's "Full House" reboot, "Fuller House" (for now ).

But maybe they're just really, really good at holding a grudge.
