As leaders and lawmakers, politicians are held to a high standard of good manners. But sometimes in the heat of the moment, a slip-up is inevitable.

Though all politicians swear to defend their constituents and the law, some are prone to another kind of swearing.

Some save their swear words for pestering reporters. Others swing cusses at competitors or colleagues. Many get caught cursing off the record, while others are less timid with their public use of profanity.

President Richard Nixon's watergate tapes revealed that he had quite the dirty mouth. Today, hearing a politician curse is much less rare, but often just as shocking.
