Have you ever even tried petting a chicken?

If you havent, maybe you should, because the results are insanely adorable well, until the end, when the chicken takes a massive bird dump.

The purring bird in this video is Sweetie, a resident of Manning River Farm Animal Sanctuary , a refuge for abused farm animals in Australia (thats the same refuge, by the way, that gave the world the wonder that is Stephie the peanut butter-eating goat! ).

Im not sure how normal it is for a chicken to purr, but it seemed like we found the sweet spot, Kane Fox, who manages IT at the sanctuary, told The Huffington Post via email. Fox says Sweeties purring is a sign of contentment, much like when cats purr.

Sweetie came to the sanctuary recently after a life of abuse and neglect in a factory farm. The hen, who was malnourished and suffering from a severely injured foot, was nursed back to health by sanctuary co-owner Fiona, whose lap appears in the video and who still cuddles with the bird on a nightly basis.

Apparently purring isnt the only way chickens might surprise the average person. Fox tells HuffPost that chickens are not only hilarious, but quite affectionate with people who take the time to bond with them.
