WASHINGTON -- Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) says he's thinking about running for president in 2016, but has not yet made up his mind.

"We're definitely talking about it, my family is talking about it," Paul told "Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace. "I truly won't make my mind up until after the 2014 elections. But I haven't been shy in saying we're thinking about it."

Paul won the 2016 presidential straw poll at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Saturday, beating out other top Republican contenders Chris Christie and Ted Cruz.

Paul's father, the former Republican House member from Texas Ron Paul, has said before that his son will "probably" run in 2016 .

The younger Paul discussed the future of the Republican Party , saying that it needs to focus on growth. "The party's got to grow bigger or we're not going to win again," said Paul.

Wallace also asked Rick Santorum, the former Republican senator from Pennsylvania and onetime presidential candidate, if he plans to run again.

"I would say Rand Paul's answer is a good one," said Santorum.

He added, however, that he is "doing everything you would be doing" to prepare for a run, and will be visiting Iowa and New Hampshire later this month.
