When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves. - Viktor E. Frankel

It is the human tendency to find it hard to accept something new in a structure that hasnt been planned for. While change can be hard at times, it is important to understand that it is constant, and we have no control over it. However, we can try to resist to it, but choosing to adapt is better than being compelled to.

Do you think cultural change is bad? Can we resist it?

Indian culture has always been conservative and apprehensive about foreign values and behaviors; this is because of the vast difference between Indian culture and most of the world. So, here are 7 reasons for all parents in India to know that cultural change is far from bad.

1. Change is Inevitable

More like traffic in a big city, change is one of those things that is beyond our control and bound to happen. Initially, it can seem to be hard to accept, but it settles quickly. Change has always been there, and it is good. For example, consider the dressing styles of the 1920s and 70s, there has been tremendous developments since then. Adding to the inevitable change, globalization has established great connections between all countries, thus creating scope for cultural change as well. In such a case, preserving the culture is important, but the impact of change is more, because of the migrants, TV shows, Internet, etc.

2. Personal Development

This is one of the most beneficial thing about cultural change! The exposure to various habits, behaviour patterns and values when blended with your existing values, enhances the way you carry yourself and look at things. No longer petty things can cause a roadblock as youve built yourself to handle it well. The most strong benefit is learning; there is something new to learn every time there is a change. Many such aspects of change can build your character and personality because your limits of learning have been stretched.

3. Opportunities

Change is good and adds on to your existing capabilities to make you more than what you were. By improving your personal development and skill sets, this creates a wide range of opportunities you can choose from. As this change is more than just individual change, we see the communities develop with new companies and brands that previously did not exist. This demands people to adapt, failing which it will be seemingly difficult to try and fit in with a drastically different mindset. It is only because of the pre-existing change that young people do not find it hard to fit in the corporate cultures.

4. Its Okay To Be Half-a-desi

Its okay to be part modern, part old-school and be completely happy. Girls and guys these days are ready to try anything trending with a perfect traditional balance. So, accepting western culture isnt about forgetting your roots, in fact, the millennials have embraced it like no other. Its just that their way of expression is very different from your generation.

5. Its a Bigger World

Sometimes we get so caught up with our busy lives and miss realizing what lies beyond our circle of exposure. Our set of norms, institutions, and practises are what we are familiar with. But when we look beyond or when whats beyond seeps into our zone, let not reproach get in the way, instead, give it a try.

The world has much to offer, and there is more beyond what we know, so embrace the richness of change.

6. Harvests Great Indians

Culture is the ideas, customs, social behaviour of a community. Every culture is rich in itself and with the right balance in adapting/adopting new values and practises, they can enhance the existing richness make one more capable and beyond his cultures limits. In parenting, understanding your childs uniqueness and difference that is beyond your culture is very essential. Usually, it is such people that make it big in life. Adapt and accept change to welcome greatness.

7. Broadens Perspective

With the variety of perceptions, practises, trends, our thinking steps beyond being restrictive, thus making this exposure make the best of us. With a broader perspective, you can think smarter, analyze better, choose well and basically, achieve things beyond what your previous self could.

Whether short skirts or new career choices, change is constant. Embrace it!
