Kansas City Royals Grab 2-0 Lead In 2015 World Series

The Kansas City Royals took a 2-0 lead in the 2015 World Series after beating the New York Mets 7-1 on Wednesday night.

As they did in Game 1, the Royals caused havoc for Mets pitchers at the plate and on the bases. Kansas City effectively used small-ball, relying on singles and taking extra bases at will. The strategy proved to be an advantage.

Although the Mets were relying on pitcher Jacob deGrom to prevent them from going down two games in the series, the wheels fell off for him in the bottom of the fifth inning. The 27-year-old gave up a walk, five hits and four runs in that inning, essentially putting the game away for the Royals.

DeGrom only managed two strikeouts against Kansas City, despite averaging 9.7 strikeouts per nine innings during the season. 

Kansas City iced the game in the bottom of the eighth, scoring three more runs to shut the door on any chance of a Mets comeback.

New York only mustered two hits and one run against the Royals' Johnny Cueto, who threw the first complete game in the World Series by an American League pitcher since Jack Morris did it in for the Minnesota Twins in Game 7 of the 1991 World Series.

The teams now will head to New York, where they will play Game 3 on Friday night.
