Former 'RuPaul's Drag Race' Star Comes Out As Transgender

I thought I would dedicate today in the spirit of being visible to share my transition with all of you."

In a beautiful display of authenticity, one of the stand-out queens from the sixth season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” is sharing her trans identity with the world.

Gia Gunn used the occasion of last Friday, March 31, being Trans Day of Visibility , to Instagram a video of herself opening up about her transition and encouraging others to share their own stories in the comments.

“I thought I would dedicate today in the spirit of being visible to share my transition with all of you,” Gunn says. “I have been on hormone replacement therapy now for about a year and I identify as female and I am indeed transgender. Thank you all so much to everyone who has supported me on this journey. I can only hope the best for each and every single one of my trans brothers and sisters, if you are in transition, or struggling with your gender identity... I want to hear from you in the comments and let’s be visible!”

Gunn is one of several “Drag Race” girls, including model Carmen Carrera and Monica Beverley Hillz , who have gone public with their transitions after appearing on the show.

Peppermint, a New York City-based performer currently competing on the ninth season of “Drag Race,” is the first queen to enter the workroom as an openly trans competitor.
