A popular British singer has finally put rumors to bed by publicly coming out of the closet as a man who is attracted to other men.

Sam Smith raised a few questions about the message of his new video "Leave Your Lover," (see above) last week when he appeared to be dealing with issues surrounding his sexuality and a love triangle with two other people.

Now, the singer has confirmed in an interview that he is, in fact, attracted to other men, falling short of using the identifiers "gay," "queer" or "bisexual." He told The Fader :

Ive never been in a relationship before. Ive only been in unrequited relationships where people havent loved me back. I guess Im a little bit attracted to that in a bad way. "In the Lonely Hour" is about a guy that I fell in love with last year, and he didnt love me back. I think Im over it now, but I was in a very dark place. I kept feeling lonely in the fact that I hadnt felt love before. Ive felt the bad things. And whats a more powerful emotion: pain or happiness?

This certainly isn't the first time that a celebrity has confirmed their attraction to the same sex without using "gay" "queer" or "bisexual" as identifiers. Late last year Olympic diver Tom Daley came out by saying he was in a relationship with another man , but without using a particular label to define himself. However, he later confirmed that he is "a gay man now."
