Nighttime Friends

There was a disconnect in waking hours;

I felt your pain, but I had no powers.

It wasn’t until my head hit the sheets

That I traveled with you

On those very streets.

And the conversations we had

In no way made us sad,

For where loved ones were taken,

They rose; they were wakened.

I laughed with you, with the departed near.

There was no worry; there was no fear.

They told us to be nighttime friends

Because there are no deaths;

There are no ends.

I felt myself in the dream;

Our minds combined, like a steady stream.

We are now forever connected,

Loved deeply and always respected.

And when I finally woke,

I knew that we had kindly spoke.

You may not know me in waking hours,

But I know now I do have powers.

We know each other

In the nighttime hours.
