What Happened In Ferguson One Year After Michael Brown's Death

After gunfire broke out on the anniversary of Michael Brown's death, some have questioned the police's account of the events.

After peaceful protests and commemoration, violence broke out in Ferguson last Sunday, which was the one-year anniversary of Michael Brown's death.  According to police accounts, gunfire rang out and the alleged shooter, 18-year-old Tyrone Harris Jr. , was shot down by St. Louis County police officers. Harris, who is still in critical condition, has since been charged with assault , but questions still linger over what incited the violent outbreak.

HuffPost Live host Marc Lamont Hill , who was in Ferguson that day, shared his understanding of the events with host Zerlina Maxwell  on Monday.

"The accounts that I heard from mainstream media were very different from the accounts I heard from people on the ground, which has always been the case in Ferguson," he said. "The sense I get is there was some resistance from protesters but it wasn't nearly as intense or as threatening as many of the law enforcement officials were saying it was."

Pamela Meanes, the former president of the National Bar Association, also described "tension" in Ferguson following the shooting and resisted the mainstream media narrative of the violence in the city. She explained:

I think there is some frustration on the part of individuals that there's always this picture being painted of Ferguson as an unruly place that cannot control the movement, but movements are not controlled anyway. You can feel the tension. [On Sunday] you could really feel the tension, as if we were reliving the death of Mike Brown all over again. … You can feel that individuals are waiting to see what story will be told and trying to get ahead of that narrative.
