Simon Cowell Has Absolutely 'No Interest' In Returning To 'American Idol'

"I left for a reason and I never regretted that."

The “American Idolreboot has already lost out on Kelly Clarkson and it doesn’t look like they’ll be getting Simon Cowell to come back anytime soon, either.

In an interview with Extra, Cowell revealed, “I was asked to do it, and the answer is no .”

It’s as simple as that. But the former “Idol” judge who was one of the original three panelists  went on to explain his reasoning, saying, “I have no interest. My memories are when we first started. It was a different time with Randy [Jackson], Ryan [Seacrest] and Paula [Abdul]. You can’t recreate that.”

Cowell said that he just didn’t feel the show had that same feeling in recent seasons.

“I left for a reason and I never regretted that,” he said. The producer is now on the judging panel for both “Britain’s Got Talent” and “America’s Got Talent.”

Cowell echoed his statements about “Idol” in an interview with “Today” Friday, noting that he’s committed to “America’s Got Talent” right now, adding, “when I really, really thought about it, it was kind of like, ‘How can you go back again?’”

All hope is not lost for the “Idol” reboot though, as it’s been reported that Ryan Seacrest is in talks to return to the competition show as its host. (Because really, if there’s no Simon Cowell, and no Kelly Clarkson, what would “Idol” be without Ryan Seacrest?)

Of course, the mega-producer just got a new gig as the co-host of “Live with Kelly and Ryan,” so whether or not he’ll actually return to “Idol” is still unclear.

Maybe they can give William Hung a call?
