Read Live Updates On Super Tuesday 2020: Biden Racks Up Wins, Sanders Takes California

There are 1,357 delegates at stake as voters from 14 states head to the polls.

Former Vice President Joe Biden barely campaigned in Super Tuesday states. He was outspent by millions of dollars and had little to no staff on the ground to reach voters with his message about “restoring the soul of America” by ousting President Donald Trump .

It didn’t matter. Biden romped to victory across the country on Tuesday, a stunning result for a candidate that looked on the ropes just a few weeks ago after disappointing finishes in Iowa and New Hampshire.

Buoyed by his blowout victory in South Carolina over the weekend and a slew of Democratic Party endorsements that followed, Biden carried southern states such as Texas, Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Alabama. He also won Massachusetts, the home state of Sen. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.), who did not clinch a Super Tuesday win.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) was projected to win California, a state that could level the playing field. However, Biden may still end up netting some delegates from the state.

Billionaire activist Tom Steyer, former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (Minn.) all dropped out of the primary in the days ahead of Super Tuesday, and Buttigieg and Klobuchar promptly endorsed Biden. Former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg, whose record-setting spending has significantly outpaced the rest of the field, was on the ballot for the first time but failed to gain much traction. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (Hawaii) also remains in the race despite a poor showing at the polls so far.

The states that voted today are:

  • Alabama: 52 delegates (Biden projected winner)
  • Vermont: 16 delegates (Sanders projected winner)
  • Virginia: 99 delegates (Biden projected winner)
  • North Carolina: 110 delegates (Biden projected winner)
  • Massachusetts: 91 delegates (Biden projected winner)
  • Maine: 24 delegates, polls closed
  • Tennessee: 64 delegates (Biden projected winner)
  • Arkansas: 31 delegates (Biden projected winner)
  • Minnesota: 75 delegates (Biden projected winner)
  • Colorado: 67 delegates (Sanders projected winner)
  • Oklahoma: 37 delegates (Biden projected winner)
  • Texas: 228 delegates (Biden projected winner)
  • Utah: 29 delegates (Sanders projected winner)
  • California: 415 delegates (Sanders projected winner)

The American Samoa Democratic caucus, with six delegates, also took place today. Bloomberg was projected to win. The Democrats Abroad primary, which has 13 delegates and allows Americans living outside the U.S. to vote, begins today and ends next week.
