Superfood Cookie Dough Bites Sound Too Good To Be True, But They're Not

Goodbye, guilt.

If it wasn't so unhealthy -- and, ahem, a potential source of salmonella -- cookie dough could probably become a beloved everyday staple in the American diet. But, alas, those raw eggs and our better judgment help keep our cookie dough cravings in check, if not for safety purposes, then at least because we don't want to confront the guilt of indulging in those wicked little treats.

But who says they have to be bad for you at all? According to the founders of healthy-eating site Sakara Life , there is actually a superfood version of classic cookie dough that is packed with nutrients and, yes, plenty of flavor. Here's what they make when the cookie dough craving strikes.

Serves 4

Ingredients

1/2 c. almond butter

1/4 c. maple syrup

1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

1/4 c. coconut flour

3 Tbsp. flaxseeds, ground

1/4 c. cacao nibs

1/4 tsp. Himalayan salt

1/4 c. hemp seeds, to roll

1/4 c. coconut flakes, to roll

Directions

In a large bowl, mix together the almond butter, maple syrup and vanilla until creamy. In a separate bowl, combine the coconut flour, ground flaxseeds and sea salt.

Add the dry ingredients to the wet and mix well to combine. Using your hands to knead the dough, add in the cacao nibs.

Scoop out into tablespoon portions and roll into balls.

In a separate small bowl or plate, mix together the hemp seeds and coconut flakes. Dip each ball into the mixture until fully coated.

Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.
