Tavis Smiley: Love And Justice Lost, Hatred And Revenge Won

PBS host Tavis Smiley reacted to Donald Trump’s presidential victory,  telling MSNBC ’s Lawrence O’Donnell on Wednesday that America “showed its true colors.”

“What I saw last night was not red, white and blue as [President Barack Obama ] would have us believe from his remarks earlier today ,” Smiley said. “Love and justice lost last night. Hatred and revenge won last night.”

Smiley, who was a strong opponent to Trump and his racism , went on to say that the president-elect wasn’t the only winner. Racism , sexism , classism and militarism won, too, he argued. 

“When you just flip the script overnight and suggest that we should all unite and all get along, but there is no apology, there is no atonement again for the racism and the sexism and the classism I don’t think you can expect folks to swallow that so easily,” Smiley said.
