Taylor Swift is famous for turning painful break-ups into chart-topping hits, and her newest single is no exception. Although Taylor hasn't yet named the ex in question, we can now begin the process of elimination. According to former flame Joe Jonas, "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" isn't about him.

"I can say it's not about me, because I don't think we've ever tried another time. I can tell you it's not about me. I think we're cool. It's pretty years removed. That said, I think the song is great. Taylor does pop music really well and I'm happy for her," he told Maryland radio station 94.7 Fresh FM .

This June, Swift's ex John Mayer famously told Rolling Stone that he was "really humiliated" by Swift's song "Dear John," which she penned about the end of their relationship. The acidic lyrics leave no room for doubt that Swift is singing about Mayer:

"Dear John, I see it all, now it was wrong / Don't you think 19 is too young to be played with your dark, twisted games when I loved you so?"

But the lyrics to her latest single are much more opaque -- the closest thing listeners get to a hint is, "you will hide away and find your piece of mind with some indie record that's much cooler than mine." The vague wording doesn't give away many details, so fans are left guessing as to which former beau was on Taylor's mind when she wrote the song.

If Jonas is telling the truth, then who do you think the song is actually about? Check out the lyrics here and use your sleuthing skills to pick up on clues. Give us your best guess in the comments below or tweet @HuffPostTeen !
