Sorry, Harry.

On Friday, "Marvel's The Avengers" passed "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2" to become the third biggest global box-office draw in history. Since its release on May 4, "The Avengers" has amassed $1.355 billion in global grosses, which easily pushes it past the $1.328 that the "Harry Potter" finale earned last summer.

Only "Avatar" and "Titanic" rank above "The Avengers" on the all-time list. The James Cameron films earned $2.782 billion and $2.185 billion, respectively.

Of course, Harry Potter wasn't the only movie hero to fall at the feet of the Avengers: the Joss Whedon film also passed Batman on the all-time list of North American box office champs. With roughly $20 million in ticket sales over the weekend in the U.S. , "The Avengers" has now grossed nearly $550 million domestically, which places it ahead of "The Dark Knight." Christopher Nolan's second Batman adventure grossed $533 million after its release in 2008, though it managed that number without the added benefit of 3D surcharges.
