The Matrix (1999)

Or Why Donald Trump is no more and no less than the crack in our system.

2016 was a particularly tough year. Too many wonderful people died. Donald Trump was elected president of the United States of America, fact upon which no further comment is to be made. Igor Dodon is the new elected president of the Republic of Moldova. Bulgarian citizens have chosen Rumen Radev as their president for the upcoming years. For those wondering about whats happening in Eastern Europe. Both Dodon and Radev are known in the region for their pro Russian stance and Orthodox Weltanschauung.

Yet, not Communism is the ghost to be haunting Europe. But rather the ghost of Terrorism. Following the attacks in Europe , hundreds of people lost their lives or have been severely injured. For Trotskyist nostalgics, contemporary Turkey happened to be the playground of military coup.

Following a referendum held in June, 52% of the British citizens casted their votes in favour of leaving the EU. Chaos followed.

To what extent any of the above is, as a matter of fact, surprising, is a separate topic. Also, to what extent choosing to ignore factual reality is still an option is another matter to be treated distinctively.

We failed.

The vast majority of the paradigms that shape our matrix failed. There are no such things as freedom or equality. For anything to be, it first requires the passing from the state of being wished for to the state of actual being into existence. Freedom and equality are still systems being wished for. And, like any other system, they have their own lady in the red dress - the error able to blow up the normality of the 0101 in a fraction of a second. Donald Trump is the woman in the red dress of our 0101 system.

I was six when "Thelma & Louise" was shot. Ive actually seen the movie during my university years. I did not get much of it. 25 years passed by. I am now 31. Ive rewatched the movie and revisited its major themes. Now, I totally get it. But that is completely irrelevant.

This year, Thelma & Louise celebrated their 25th anniversary. In an article for Harpers Bazaar , Geena Davis recalls: One very common theme in the press was, This changes everything. Now there are going to be so many female buddy pictures, so many female action figures. This just completely rewrites everything," and it didn't. The really short answer is, it didn't do shit.

During the 60s, Stanley Milgram conducted a controversial experiment on obedience. He was, of course, extensively influenced by the Holocaust and especially by Adolf Eichmann. The chilling conclusion: following the precise instructions of a researcher, most of the people who volunteered for the experiment delivered what they thought were painful and dangerous shocks to another innocent human being. Milgrams study had its critics. But most of the following studies on patterns of human behavior generally tend to agree.

One of the many struggles of Political Science has always been the ability to build an indestructible armour for Democracy. Scholars with solid knowledge and advanced insight dedicated their lives to finding the magic formula. The formula that would banish crime and calibrate human nature. They failed.

Are we, humans, rather good or bad? Centuries of philosophical debate did not manage to find anything close to a satisfactory answer. There is not enough proof, cause there are no such variables enabling mathematical measurement. Hence, the matter is still open to discussion.

What we know, instead, is that the lady in the red dress is unquestionable. Cause there are such variables enabling its mathematical measurement. We can do nothing to banish her, we can to nothing to avoid her. All we can to is learn to live with her.

P.S. Looking forward for the counterargument.
