This Is What It's Like To Have A Trans Parent

MTV will premiere a new episode of their "True Life" series tonight that focuses on the lives and experiences of individuals who have a parent that identify as transgender.

"True Life: I Have A Trans Parent" follows two individuals, Kiara and Jeremy, whose parents decided to transition to live as their authentic selves. The episode is part of MTV's "Look Different" campaign, an initiative that elevates conversations surrounding race, gender and anti-queer bias, and which previously featured an episode entitled "True Life: I'm Genderqueer ."

"When my dad told me about the show I was a little hesitant because I'm a private person," Kiara told The Huffington Post. "I like to keep certain emotions and feelings to myself. After talking to my husband, I realized that someone else out there is going through what I am and may not know how to deal with it. I thought by appearing on the show someone with a parent transitioning would see that they aren't alone. I believe that the show will inform others a little more about everyday people and their lives in the trans community."

Check out the trailer for this episode of "True Life: I Have A Trans Parent" above or an exclusive clip below. "True Life" airs on January 25 at 11:30pm ET/PT.
