Thom Tillis Skips Islamic State Briefing After Attacking Opponent For The Same Thing

Whoops.

Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), who heavily criticized his Democratic opponent last year for missing a Senate briefing about the Islamic State, skipped out on a recent Pentagon briefing about the terrorist group, WFMY reports .

Tillis attacked then-Sen. Kay Hagan (D-N.C.)  during the 2014 election for missing a briefing on the terrorist group and several meetings of the Senate Armed Services Committee. Hagan later admitted  to missing the hearing to fundraise.

But last Tuesday, Tillis missed a briefing on the Islamic State as well. His office told WFMY  that he wasn't fundraising, but rather was discussing the group and national security with former Vice President Dick Cheney.

"During his first six months in office, Senator Tillis has demonstrated his clear commitment to strengthening our military and keeping America safe, and he would never miss a classified Armed Services Committee hearing on ISIS to attend a campaign fundraiser," Tillis spokesman Daniel Keylin told the station. Keylin told The Huffington Post in an email that "Tillis' Armed Services Committee hearing attendance is better than 90 percent."
