You may have heard us use the word inflammation once, twice, or two hundred times before but we promise, its all for a good cause.

Inflammation is your bodys response to stress not always a bad thing until it becomes chronic, destroying the balance in your body and making you more susceptible to aging and disease. In fact, it is now being referred to as the common link between such debilitating conditions as Alzheimers, heart disease, cancer, and arthritis.

And were literally serving up inflammation on a silver platter, and feeding it to ourselves regularly.

Some of the typical, everyday foods we eat, play one of the largest roles in inflaming the cells within our bodies and causing illnesses to develop slowly, often making their debut years down the road. Symptoms of inflammation that dont recede are telling you that the on switch to your immune system is stuck . This makes your immune system poised on high alert even when you arent in imminent danger. In some cases, what started as a healthy mechanism, like building scar tissue or swelling, just wont shut off.

Which foods should we be crossing off the list if were trying to avoid chronic inflammation?

1. Sugar

Sugar is the #1 culprit of inflammation. And it sneaks up in places youd least expect, like Agave sweeteners promising a low-glycemic index. According to Dr. Nicholas Perricone, the nutritionist who wrote the book on anti-inflammatory eating,

Sugar suppresses the activity of our white blood cells, which makes us more susceptible to infectious disease (colds, the flu, and so forth) as well as cancer. Plus, sugar overload can cause collagen fibers to lose their strength, making skin more vulnerable to sun damage, wrinkles, and sagging.

Avoid sugar or sweeteners at all costs bottom line.

2. Barley & Rye

While these grains are certainly healthier for your body than refined carbs, they can still create inflammation in some people. Why? Gluten. Gluten-free diets have become all the rage for nearly ten years now, and not just for people suffering from Celiac Disease. Removing gluten from your diet helps to eliminate a large culprit of inflammation, assisting your body to function more optimally on a day-to-day basis especially if youre already feeling some joint aches and pains, or stomach discomfort. Many doctors put their patients on temporary gluten free diets to illustrate the difference in how ones body feels sans gluten, prompting many people to adopt the gluten-free lifestyle for good!

3. Peanuts

This little tiny snack, once considered to be harmless and healthy, is now being labeled as just the opposite. Peanuts are a common allergen, and even if you dont suffer from a peanut allergy, you can still fall victim to the effects of inflammation, as allergenic foods set off a broad inflammatory response in the body . Cant imagine quitting your yummy peanut butter indulgences? Switch to almond butter instead your body, and waistline, will thank you!
