Two 'Breaking Bad' Characters Finally Reunite On 'Better Call Saul'

"Breaking" news!

Better Call Saul ” didn’t chicken out when it came to a big “Breaking Bad ” reunion at Los Pollos Hermanos in Monday’s episode.

While serving as Mike’s (Jonathan Banks) eyes and ears inside the restaurant chain, Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk ) gets caught going through the trash by none other than the secret drug kingpin himself, Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito).

We expected just a nugget of a scene when Gus returned, but the episode gave us a whole combo meal.

While Jimmy is in the restaurant, pretty obviously tracking a mysterious bag for Mike, Gus is occasionally visible cleaning in the background. He finally confronts Jimmy after the charade has gone on long enough.

Series creator Vince Gilligan, who directed the scene, told Entertainment Weekly , “It was like old home week. It was wonderful seeing Giancarlo back.”

He also recalled Gus’ astute “sixth sense”:

I just think Gus Fring is the smartest guy in the room, no matter what room he’s in. He has this uncanny sixth sense, so to speak, and when Jimmy McGill blunders into his sanctum, into his territory — Gus Fring is probably in the back of the restaurant in his office when this happens, the antennae go up, and he just knows, ‘Oh, something is amiss. I feel a disturbance in the Force.’ Jimmy is no match for this guy, and Jimmy walks out of that building none the wiser, having no idea he just met with the capo de tutti capi — the boss of all bosses.

Other “Breaking Bad” characters returned in the episode, too. Jimmy hired his secretary Francesca (Tina Parker), and there was a brief appearance from Victor (Jeremiah Bitsui), one of Gus’ henchmen and future boxcutter victim

Odenkirk previously told The Huffington Post that a bunch of “Breaking Bad ” characters were on their way this season, saying, “It’s just awesome, and I just envy the fans for the surprises that are coming this season. I guess as it comes closer to ‘Breaking Bad,’ it’s gonna happen more and more,”

Get ready for others to be knocking on the door soon enough.
