Vice Media announced on Wednesday that Josh Tyrangiel will join the organization to lead its new daily newscast on HBO.

Tyrangiel, who joins Vice after serving as Bloomberg's chief content officer, will be responsible for overseeing the show's programming, among other things.

Vice co-founder and CEO Shane Smith said in a statement that Tyrangiel's experience in journalism, and his willingness to "rewrite the rules," is what made him the right person for the job.

"The nightly news show we're creating is going to take news programming in a totally new direction, and it needs the leadership of an expert who's hungry to do things differently," he said in a statement. "Josh is the perfect fit, and we couldn't be more excited to have him."

While the newscast's premiere has yet to be announced, Tyrangiel's first day at Vice will be Oct. 23.

The newscast is expected to air five times throughout the week on HBO, with each episode lasting 30 minutes. The show will aim to remain true to the organization's unique style of ground-level reporting that has boosted its popularity in recent years.
