Joe Biden Officiates Same-Sex Wedding For White House Staffers

Vice President Joe Biden officiated a wedding Monday for two longtime White House staffers.

The marriage of Brian Mosteller and Joe Mahshie was the first time Biden officiated a ceremony , the vice president’s office told CNN in a statement. Biden obtained a temporary certification from the District of Columbia.

“Proud to marry Brian and Joe at my house,” Biden tweeted. “Couldn’t be happier, two longtime White House staffers, two great guys.”

Mosteller serves as special assistant to the president and director of Oval Office operations. Mahshie is a trip coordinator for Michelle Obama , according to his LinkedIn profile.

The wedding was attended only by the immediate family , NBC reported. The ceremony took place at the vice president’s residence on the grounds of the U.S. Naval Observatory in Northwest Washington.

Biden’s wife, Jill, tweeted, “Love is love!” in response to her husband’s tweet.

The vice president’s tweet had more than 16,000 retweets and 50,000 likes by late Monday further evidence that Biden will be sorely missed when the Obama administration leaves office next year.
