Jeff Bezos' ownership of the Washington Post became official on Tuesday.

The Post reported that the sale documents that transferred ownership of the newspaper from the Graham family to the Amazon founder were signed. Publisher Katharine Weymouth announced the news to employees in a memo, writing, "We are officially under new ownership, and a new era for The Washington Post begins."

Don Graham will remain chief of the Washington Post Co., which will continue to operate without the newspaper under a different name. As the Post noted, Weymouth, who is Graham's niece, will be the newspaper's sole connection to the Graham family.

Bezos' purchase of the newspaper in August came as a surprise to even media insiders. He has yet to reveal specific changes for the newspaper, though he has floated the idea of creating bundled subscription packages. He has said that he intends to "experiment" with the Post and provide a "financial runway" for the newspaper .
