Barbi Appelquist is an attorney in Los Angeles whose practice focuses on nonprofits and government affairs. She has served on various nonprofit boards emphasizing gender equality & political participation, including the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media (Chair of Advisory Board), Hillary for America (Co-Director of Veterans and Military Families for Hillary), UN Women #TeamHeForShe (Co-Founder), Santa Monica Child Care & Early Education Task Force (Co-Chair), National Womens Political Caucus, & Santa Monica Democratic Club (Political Director). In 2011, Barbi was invited to the launch of The Women in Public Service Project in Washington, D.C. She is a former candidate for State Senate & a current DSCC delegate to the California Democratic Party as well as a Political Partner of the Truman National Security Project. Barbi is an alumna of Barnard College, UC Hastings College of the Law, & Pepperdine School of Public Policy. Barbi is also a two-time cancer survivor, having been diagnosed with pediatric liver cancer as a baby and diagnosed in 2011 at the age of 34 with a gastrointestinal stromal tumor, a rare soft-tissue sarcoma. She has been cancer-free since 2012. Barbi loves spending her free time with her young daughter in Los Angeles and is actively training for the next half marathon.
