Rep. Pramila Jayapal

Pramila Jayapal represents Washingtons 7th District as the first Indian American woman to ever hold a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Jayapal was elected to the House in 2016 as a progressive champion, activist and former Washington state senator. For nearly three decades, she has dedicated her career to fighting for immigrant, civil and human rights. She is the founder of OneAmerica, a leading immigrant rights organization, and currently serves as first vice chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, vice ranking member of the House Budget Committee, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, co-chair of the Womens Working Group on Immigration in the House and a member of the Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security. Jayapal was named a White House Champion of Change for her social justice activism and was recently selected by the Politico Playbook Power List as one of 18 politicians, activists and operatives to look out for in 2018. Born in India, Jayapal immigrated to the U.S. by herself at the age of 16 to attend college. She has a BA from Georgetown University and an MBA from Northwestern. She is a proud mother, a Seattleite and a green tea enthusiast.
