Kurds in Syria
"The Daily Show" dug up the president's comments last year that he would "never forget" the Kurds' sacrifice in the battle against ISIS.
They huffed and they puffed and, well, theyre still not standing up to Trump.
White evangelicals have stuck by Trump through allegations of sexual assault, racism and corruption. But leaders have decried his decision to withdraw troops from northern Syria.
The Syrian government began deploying on Monday in a major victory for President Bashar al-Assad and his principal ally Russia.
WHAT'S HAPPENING
Kurdish forces will work with the Syrian government to fend off Turkeys invasion, a major alliance shift after Trump ordered U.S. troops out of the area.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Turkey-backed groups had killed nine civilians, including Hervin Khalaf, secretary general of the Future Syria Party.
But President Trump says its OK for Turkey and the U.S.-allied Kurds to fight. "Let them!" he tweeted.
Defense Secretary Mark Esper isnt saying how many U.S. troops will leave the north, but he says they represent most of the 1,000 troops in Syria.
A U.S. military official said the situation across northeastern Syria was "deteriorating rapidly."
Kurds have come to deeply value their collective memory. The next generation won't forget U.S. support for Turkey's bloody move into Syria.
