Jack Smith, the special counsel appointed by the Justice Department, is overseeing two investigations into former President Donald Trump.
The former president failed to appear for a deposition in the House select committee's investigation of the 2021 riot at the U.S. Capitol.
He gets another week, but the former president still has to testify beginning Nov. 14, the House panel insisted.

It seems House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will do just about anything to get Donald Trump to testify before the Jan. 6 committee.
"You personally orchestrated and oversaw a multi-part effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election and obstruct the peaceful transfer of power," the panel said.
Paxton said the "suspicious and erratic" process server is lucky he didn't get hurt.
The effort is a dramatic uptick in the agencys investigation, separate from the probe into classified documents kept at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate.
He claims panel lacks appointees of Rep. McCarthy, who refused to cooperate after 2 of his picks who aimed to overturn Americans' vote were rejected.
