During a Senate hearing, Warren ripped the secretary for his short and ineffective HUD tenure.
The Housing and Urban Development Secretary eventually said he takes responsibility "even though" he "wasn't aware" of any spending limits.
It was the latest in a long history of anti-LGBTQ remarks by the HUD secretary.
WHAT'S HAPPENING
The HUD secretary previously denied knowing $31,000 in taxpayer money had been spent on a dining set.
Carson has proposed changing the department's mission statement to better reflect the Trump administration's priorities.
In a message to staff, Carson insisted the housing department would still ensure inclusivity in housing.
It will no longer reference "inclusive" communities "free from discrimination."
The purchase comes amid proposals to slash HUD programs for the poor and elderly.
