WHAT'S HAPPENING
The 89-year-old California senator's extended absence has created headaches for Democrats and for President Joe Biden's judicial nominees.
"Is that really how you want to start your defense of guns?!!" one critic asked the Texas Republican.
"Its not going away anytime soon," Christopher Wray said in a Senate hearing on the Capitol riot.
Questions about the FBIs preparations for the riot, and investigations into it, are expected to dominate Wrays appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The Senate minority leader told Politico that Garland had his support, five years after he refused to advance his nomination to the Supreme Court.
The California Democrat's announcement comes after progressives expressed anger at her handling of Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett's hearings.
