How Frat Hazing Inspired A Book About Sex Between Straight Guys

"Not Gay" author Jane Ward investigates flexible heterosexuality.

Institutions rooted in tradition, like  college fraternities  and the military , have long been known to ritually haze their new recruits and pledges. But when these hazings turn blatantly homoerotic -- which they often do, according to author Jane Ward  -- there's an unexpected denial of the interaction's sexual nature.

Ward talked with HuffPost Live on Thursday about her new book, Not Gay: Sex Between Straight White Men , and how straight men -- including those who are homophobic or misogynistic -- can wind up sleeping with another man.

Watch Ward describe the lives of straight men engaging in homosexual activity in the video above.
